We have approximately 12 women that play each week within our Association which is a big increase from years gone by and with the recent success of the ladies last week, all augers well for the future “

Domestic 1st Division eyes will centre around the Grand Boulder tonight when Summer Premiers Grand Gold put their season on the line when they face stablemates Grand Blue

.

SMITH TAKES OUT 9 BALL TITLE

8 Ball veteran Brad Smith showed his versatility in the cue sport by taking out the annual 9 Ball title defeating Grand Boulder team-mate Craig Turner in the final.

Smith who has been playing within the Association for over 20 years was superb on the night defeating an equally impressive Turner in a pulsating final.

Domestic competition resumes tonight with most focus being on the Criterion when the home side looks to consolidate second spot against an improving Tower combination while in second division action Albions bright start to the season will be put to the test against Broken Hill who will be looking to continue their recent solid form.

9 BALL TOURNAMENT TONIGHT.

Local Pool players will tonight take a step in a different direction with the holding on the annual 9 Ball tournament at the Grand Boulder.

CRITERION REMAIN UNDEFEATED

While continued hype surrounds the unbeaten start to the season from boom team the Workers Club, Criterion Hotel have made a small statement of their own being undefeated in their opening 2 matches of 1st Division 8 Ball.

After having the opening round bye, Criterion have cruised past the Grand Gold and Albion over the last 2 weeks to sit in second position on the ladder.

In other matches Workers Club proved way too strong for Grand Gold while Tower opened their account against Grand White.

In 2nd Division action, heavy weights Gala and Criterion have started the season undefeated after accounting for Broken Hill and Star and Garter respectively. Also recording victories were Workers Club 1, Grand Boulder and Albion.

In tonights 1st Division match of the round, Criterion host Grand Blue while all eyes will be on the 2nd Division clash between Gala and Criterion with the winner likely to hold the mantle of early premiership favourites.

The Associations first major event will be held next Thursday with the annual 9 Ball tournament.

WORKERS CLUB REIGN SUPREME

A lot of the off-season 8 Ball talk centred around the new side Workers Club.

After an extensive recruiting campaign, Workers club did not disappoint in last week opening round of fixtures easily brushing aside Tower Hotel 19-6.

Grand Blue won a last game cliff-hanger against Grand White 13-12 while Albion opened up their 1st Division campaign in style defeating last years Summer premiers Grand Gold 15-10.

In second division action, defending premiers Gala were pushed all the way by a new look Grand side eventually winning 9-8 while Country Club jumped straight into the top 8 after accounting for Albion.

Other winners were Criterion, Hannans and Tower.

Tonight’s action will centre around the Grand when the Gold side look to open their winter account against Workers Club while Star and Garter make their 2nd Division debut when they travel to the Criterion.

WINTER 8 BALL TONIGHT

The Goldfields 8 Ball Association launches it’s 2018 Winter season tonight coming off the back of a successful Summer season which saw the Grand Gold complete back to back premierships.

The 1st Division will be made up of 7 sides while 11 sides will chase premiership glory in the 2nd Division.

Highlights of the season will be both the Goldfields Open Singles and Doubles cumulating in the Grand Final which will be held on Saturday 25th August.

In tonights opening round of 1st Division matches, all eyes will be on the Tower Hotel when the home side host new side the Workers Club.

While making their 1st Division debut,  heavy off-season recruiting has already seen the Workers Club head the premiership market.

Albion Hotel will also step out in 1st Division for the first time when they receive a visit from Summer premiers Grand Gold while it’s Derby night at the Grand when Blue and White battle it out.

In 2nd Division action, a packed house is expected at the Gala Hotel when the home side hoists last years premiership flag for the first time before the Grand Boulder arrive hoping to dim the jovial mood.

Workers Club 1 and Criterion clash in a season opening mouth-watering clash while two of last years cellar dwellars in Country Club and Albion meet in a clash vital for early season confidence.

The Associations first major event will be the annual 9Ball competition which will be held on Thursday 26th April.

8 BALL SOON TO RECOMMENCE

Next Thursday night see the opening round of the much anticipated Goldfields 8 Ball winter competition.

Coming off the back of a highly successful Summer season which saw the Grand Gold complete back to back premierships, all eyes will be on both the 1st and 2nd Divisions which will be highlighted by the introduction of new teams.

With the Workers club having formed a 1st Division team, 7 sides will now fight it out for premiership glory while Star and Garter make their re-entry into the 2nd Division after a fairly significant absence.

Last years premiers in the 1st and 2nd Division were Grand Blue and Gala respectively.

Major events during the season include divisional closed singles and both the Goldfields Open Singles and Doubles.

The Grand final is scheduled for Saturday 25th August.

GRAND GOLD SUMMER CHAMPIONS

Grand Gold completed a dominant summer campaign and back to back premierships after easily defeating Tower Hotel 9-4 in last weeks Summer Grand Final.

After only tasting defeat once leading into the final, all the pressure was on Grand Gold as they entered the match hoping to etch their names in Summer 8Ball history by completing a rare back to back premiership.

But after jumping to an early 4-1 lead, Grand Gold appeared in cruise control on the way to raising the premiership cup.

While disappointed in defeat, Tower can take great credit for their performance in making the final which should hold them in good stead for the upcoming winter season.

Grand Gold will now try and emulate their summer form into winter form when the Association kicks off it’s winter season on the 5th April.

The Summer wind-up will be held this Saturday night at the Grand Boulder commencing at 7.30pm.

8 BALL GRAND FINAL TONIGHT

All 8 Ball roads will lead to the Grand Boulder tonight when the Grand Gold and Tower Hotel square off in the Summer 8Ball Grand Final.

In last weeks semi-finals Grand Gold proved a little strong for a gallant Criterion side winning 9-6 while Tower won a nail-biter against North End Tavern 9-8.

Tonights match has all the ingredients of an absolute classic.

While Grand Gold will be trying to emulate the performance of their stablemates Grand Blues who recorded back to back premierships in 2014 and 2015, Tower will be trying to add their name to a trophy that saw them triumphant in 2013 going through the season undefeated.

In their home and away clash way back in round 3, Grand Gold proved way superior winning 13-4.

While nothing has changed much since then in regards to Grands outstanding form, a lot has altered within the Tower camp highlighted by the mid-season recruiting of former Australian players Dax Wasely and Keenan Ciglar.

Both sides enter the contest in red hot form. While Grand Gold have only tasted defeat once all season, Tower are currently on a 10 game winning streak themselves.

While Tower will rely heavily on Wasley and Ciglar, Grand Gold will also be expecting big things from the Rico brothers Rombert and Stephan along with upcoming young gun Brodie Conroy.

Selecting a winner here is virtually a guess with strong cases being made for both sides.

On saying that while Tower will enter the final confident of extending their winning run, maybe the carrot of back to back flags may just be enough to see the Grand Gold lift the premiership cup once again.

The Summer wind-up will be held at the Grand Boulder on Saturday 10th March commencing at 7.30pm.

Grand Gold  v  Tower

GRAND FINAL SPOTS UP FOR GRABS

Grand Final spots are up for grabs tonight when the Goldfields 8 Ball Association holds it’s semi final.

In last weeks qualifying finals Nth End Tavern put an end to Grand White’s premiership hopes while Criterion caused an upset by defeating a disappointing  Broken Hill 1 side which bowed out in straight sets.

In the first of tonights semi-finals defending premiers Grand Gold put their back to back premiership hopes on the line when they host a dangerous Criterion. While Grand Gold earned themselves a weeks rest, Criterion continued their late season charge last week setting up an interesting clash. Criterion will be hoping to continue their fairy-tail run on the back of young Gun Dan Sinclair who topped the averages , but the Grands overall depth headed by reigning Open winner Stephan Rico and Brody Conroy who won more games than any other player throughout the season, the Grand should be able to secure enough frames to secure their ticket to next weeks big dance.

A mouth-watering clash awaits 8 Ball followers at the Tower Hotel when a host of Australian and National players don the table in the much awaited clash between Tower and Nth End Tavern. The Tower side includes Australian representatives Dax Wasley and Keenan Ciglar while the Nth End Tavern’s side includes Jasley Dimer who will captain Australian in the upcoming u/18’s world tiles, Neil J Dimer who last year took out the National u/15’s title . Jason Dimer who this year represented WA and Mayna Aspinal who represented WA last season in the womens Nationals and took out this years Open Ladies singles. Not to be out done their 5th leg is Jeanette Dimer who backed up last years women Singles with a runner ups effort this year.

Both sides come into the match in top flight form and only a brave person would try and find a winner.

But with a mixture of both youth and experience within, North End Tavern may be able to become the first team to come from 8th place to qualify for the final.

Grand Gold  v  Criterion

Tower  v  Nth End Tavern

8 BALL FINALS CONTINUE TONIGHT

Summer 8 Ball finals continue tonight with Semi final spots up for grabs for the victors.

In last weeks opening round of finals, minor and defending premiers Grand Gold confirmed their status as premiership favourites with a trouncing of Grand White while Tower earned themselves a weeks rest after coming from 8-4 down to clinch a 9-8 victory over a stunned Broken Hill 1.

In the elimination finals, North End Tavern extended their season for at least another week with a comfortable win over Grand Blue while Gala can now focus on the upcoming winter season after proving no match for Criterion.

In the first of the 2 finals tonight, Broken Hill 1 get a chance to get their premiership hopes back on track when they host Criterion.

Whilst they would still be internally disappointed in last weeks fade out, Broken Hills overall consistency during the home and away season should be enough to see them win enough frames to advance in to next week.

Grand White host North End Tavern in a match that could go down to the wire. While Grand White occupied the top 4 for the majority of the season, North End Tavern scraped in the finals finishing in 8th position. In their home and away clash back in November North End Tavern were superior winning 12-5.

But with the advantage of playing at home and also having the more consistent season, most 8 ball experts expect the Grand White to continue on to next week.

There will be a Country Week meeting next Wednesday night at 7.30pm at the Grand Boulder for all players wishing to attend this years event.

Broken Hill 1  v  Criterion

Grand White  v  North End Tavern

8 BALL FINALS TO COMMENCE

Tonight sees the opening round of Summer 8 Ball finals with the top 8 sides set to battle it out for premiership glory.

In the first of the Double chance finals, minor and defending premiers Grand Gold will battle it out against stablemates Grand White.

Grand Gold were superb all Summer dropping only the one match while Grand White occupied the top 4 for most of the season finishing with an 8-4 win / loss record.

Whilst there will be no home ground advantage in this one, Grand Golds form over the Summer should ensure them a weeks rest.

In the other clash, Broken Hill 1 host Tower in a match that has the makings of an epic.

Like Grand Gold, Broken Hill 1 only lost the once during the home and away season, while Towers mid-season recruiting ensured their position of 3rd on the ladder with a 9-3 record.

Whilst a lot of the 8 ball talk has surrounded Towers depth of players, Broken Hill’s consistency is hard to ignore and with the knowledge of having a home final in their mind, this may be enough to see them chalk up a victory.

In the first of the elimination finals, Grand Blue host North End Tavern. Pre-season 8 ball pundits would have had these 2 teams battling it out in the top 4 but a combination of player shortage and poor form have seen them finish in the bottom half.

Picking a winner here looks virtually impossible but with the North End Tavern having young guns Jasely and Neil J Dimer within their ranks, they should be able to scrape together enough wins to progress their season into next week.

In the last match old rivals Criterion and Gala lock horns.

The sides have produced some memorable clashes over past winter seasons and on paper this again looks like a close contest.

In their only clash of the season Gala took the points 10-7 and with similar sides expected to grace the table tonight, Gala once again should take the points.

Grand Gold  v  Grand White

Broken Hill 1  v  Tower

Grand Blue  v  Nth End Tavern

Criterion  v  Gala

8 BALL LADDER POSITIONS UP FOR GRABS

Tonight sees the last of the Summer qualifying matches with final positions on the ladder still undecided.

While Grand Gold and Broken Hill 1 will finish the season off occupying the top 2 spots, bragging rights as “ minor premiers “ will hinge on results tonight. Both sides will enter their matches as heavy favourites and with results expected to go the way of both teams, Grand Gold should finish the season on top of the ladder.

3rd Placed Tower host 4th placed Grand White. While a win would be a confidence builder to the winner and will determine  final ladder positions between the 2 sides, both are expected to finish the home and away matches in the double chance top 4.

In the bottom half of the 8, results tonight will also have a bearing on who and where sides will play next week in the elimination finals.

Last weeks winners were Grand Gold and White, Broken Hill 1, Tower, Criterion and Workers Club 1.

The Grand final is scheduled for Thursday 1st March.

SHADBOLT WINS SUMMER SINGLES

Grand Boulder veteran Ian Shadbolt wrote his name into Goldfields 8 Ball history by taking out his  3rd IMFS Summer Singles on the weekend defeating reigning Goldfields Open Singles Winner Stephan Rico in the final.

Shadbolt who previously tasted success in the event in 2011 and 2016, was the dominant player on the day and his victory was just reward.

While defeated, Rico’s performance backed up his Singles victory confirming his position as one of the leading players within the region. Making up the top 4 was Steve Cameron and Eli Granole.

Meanwhile in local competition Grand Golds undefeated run came to an end at the expense of second placed Broken Hill 1, while Tower, Grand Blue, Country Club, Grand White and Criterion also recorded wins.

In tonight’s matches, it’s Derby night in Boulder when the Grand Gold clash with the Grand Blue while Gala host Grand White, with both results to have a bearing in the final positioning of teams on the ladder.

8 BALL LADDER TIGHTENS FURTHER

While the top 8 positions on the Summer 8 Ball ladder look formalised, positions within the top 8 remain undecided.

While Grand Gold and Broken Hill 1 remain comfortable occupying the top 2 spots, Gala remain a game clear in 3rd with only one game separating 4th placed Tower and 8th placed Nth End Tavern.

In Last weeks round of fixtures, Grand Gold continued on their undefeated way while Grand Blue, Albion, Gala, Tower and Workers Club 1 all recorded victories.

Matches hot up tonight with some exciting games being staged.

Broken Hill 1 host Grand Gold in a top of the table clash while a top 4 spot can just about be locked in for the winner of the Tower versus Gala clash.

This Saturday afternoon sees the holding of the IMFS Summer Singles at the Grand Boulder. Players must have competed on 5 of the fixtured nights throughout the Summer season to be eligible to play.

Nominations will be taken from 3.30pm with matches to commence at 4pm sharp.

SUMMER 8 BALL SET TO RESUME

Tonight sees the resumption of the Goldfields 8 Ball Associations Summer competition with finals spots still up for grabs for 11 of the 13 sides.

At the conclusion of the first half of the season the Grand Gold headed the table undefeated while Broken Hill 1 were 2 games clear of Grand White and Gala who occupy 3rd and 4th in the double chance top 4.

Making up the top 8 are Tower, Criterion, North End Tavern and Grand Blue.

In tonights fixtures, interest will surround the Criterion when the home side can blunt out Grand Blues efforts to make the top 4 with a victory while Gala will be looking to consolidate their spot in the top 4 with a victory over North End Tavern.

It’s Derby night at the Grand when White play Gold while Workers Club 2 host Albion with the loser staring down the prospect of holding the wooden spoon until next season.

Players are also gearing up for the upcoming IMFS Summer Singles which will be held on Saturday the 20th January for players that have competed on 5 nights during the summer season.
